Capstone Projects

Capstone projects are learning projects which are active and also intensive. They need a lot of effort in their planning and implementation and also in the submission of final work which is written. Capstone projects are used by professors and lecturers in order to evaluate the performance of their students and also for the students to apply what they have been learning in class in real life situations. In many universities it’s a requirement which will enable you to obtain a college degree.
Capstone projects detail the area in which the study is being carried out, core courses done when preparing the project, where then students will consult .The project will also detail the faculties in which the students have referred for any form of assistance and the number of students in the project. More importantly the project should give details of the implementations i.e. the plan, structure, activities involved, the work structure and different time phases for the group. For the groups, they must show how they will divide the work amongst the members; the sources in which credit was sought with credits being 4 at maximum per semester and also the credit must be justified. Finally it should be detailed how the final work which is written should be and how members will be responsible for preparing the end product. A continuous feedback will be required to determine how the student has been fairing after class work. It is also used a tool for learning and this differentiates it from the law schools which are traditional. Students are expected to receive inputs from advisors the design of the project and also its quality. The students should also give weekly updates to the advisor. Also sessions which are face-to-face with the advisor will be encouraged through out the project period.
On completion the project will be viewed by the committee in the faculty and after viewing, they will give necessary recommendations and revisions were necessary and slight modifications were needed. The committee must be comprised of at least a supervisor for approval of capstone projects .Other members in the committee might include other lecturers from other schools in the university and also lawyers, judges and other personalities who might be relevant in that field. The final work which has been written may take different forms. It might be scholarly which has a high quality and can be printed. It can also take the form of a paper which is seminar-type. It can either also be a bill which is a model and its supporting memorandum. It can also take the form of a draft which may be of a complaint or even a petition. The above examples are just but a few of the many examples in which the final might take its form. In all the cases it is expected that students give a defense on their work before the committee comprising of the advisor in the faculty and few of his/her recruits. The credits to be awarded will depend on many factors. Some which include student numbers, number of hours dedicated for the , projects scope, time frame and the quality of the final written work. The allocation of the credits ranges from written work and the supplementary work. Presumption made is that some credits which have been assigned to written work which is final will be rewarded grades from ordinary law school. The credits which are remaining are either pass/ fail.
