Now that you’ve seen what the final product for this unit might look like, design plan for your final product for this unit so that, in the coming assignments, you can refer back to the plan to guide you. Note: if at this point you decide to depart somewhat from the trajectory you’d established in the previous assignments, that’s okay.
What your design plan should look like depends much on the genre or modality you decide to compose in. If your final project will be primarily text-based—like an editorial, or a satirical essay—then your plan should explain the conventions or defining characteristics of that form of writing, how your product for this unit will adhere to those conventions, along with an outline. If you’ve chosen documentary film, your design plan should also start by explaining the conventions or defining characteristics, though then it should explain the various sections of the documentary, the content of the documentary, the style of cinematography, etc. And if you’ve chosen a website, then you should begin with the conventions for websites on that particular topic, followed by outlining the content, structure, and appearance of your website.
If you struggle with this stage of your project, that’s okay; speak to your instructor, but otherwise do your best, know that you will receive feedback, and remember, this is just a draft—you can always change, improve, or revise your plan as you go.
Ultimately, for the final product of this unit you will be graded on how well you make use of the conventions and rhetorical advantages of your chosen genre/modality to accomplish the audience/purpose you established in Assignment 23, so basically, this assignment is asking you to compose a plan for achieving the purpose you identified.
Hint: while there are detailed requirements for the final product for this unit (below), the underlying foundation for your grade is based on how well your project is strategically-adapted for your audience.
