Assignment 28: One… last… look back
Much like you did for Assignment 22, write an essay that draws from your experience in order to generate insight, though instead of focusing on academic writing, you will focus on what you learned through composing for multiple audiences and in multiple genres/modalities.
As with the previous reflection, craft this essay so that someone who is not familiar with our class would understand what you’re talking about, which means briefly explaining the assignments and the overall process. In your essay, address the following points, though do so in essay form, with a central theme, an introduction, a body that flows from one section to another, and a conclusion (not by answering each question bullet-by-bullet):
1) How were your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about your topic affected by the research and composing you did this semester? What did you learn, and what new knowledge, perspective, and/or insight into your topic did you develop?
2) Drawing on the work you did for Assignments 23 and 24, explain the rhetorical situation for your project for this unit.
3) Again, drawing on the work you did for Assignments 23 and 24, explain how you responded to that rhetorical situation through making informed decisions about genre/modality, as well as how you took into account that genre or modality’s particular conventions, characteristics, or capabilities in order to achieve your purpose with your audience (hint: provide examples).
4) In what ways was the discourse community that comprised your audience for this most recent project different from the discourse community for your research project, and what have you learned about discourse communities, genres, and modalities through your experience composing for these different audiences?
5) In what ways do the conventions of academic writing and other matters—genre and modality, for example—shape the ways members of discourse communities interact with each other and the products of those interactions? Provide examples from your experience this semester.
Your finished essay should be 750 or more words (or three+ pages). When you’re finished, I recommend going back over the draft to make it more insightful, more cohesive, and to clean up any grammatical errors. Helpful hint: To earn the most possible points for this essay, give examples and be specific!
Requirements: Word or Google doc, double spaced, 12pt font
