The chosen problem is basically the objects left during surgery. The problem of the surgical items being left involuntarily in patient’s body after an operation has been quite common since the surgery practices began. There are various foreign objects which are normally prevalent in patients, these include; swallowed pins, bullets, and pennies among other objects. There are also other surgical items which are normally tools as well as the materials that are used in the surgical procedures. This problem, mostly referred to as surgical error occurs when a nurse or surgeon leaves some foreign objects such as gauze, sponges, needles as well as other surgical instruments together with towels inside of the patient. Up to date, about 800 people have been reported to have had surgical instruments being left inside them after they have been through an invasive surgical procedure.
