Toys are associated with imaginative play, which plays a vital role in child development. According to the cognitive Aspect of Sex-Role Development, gender specific toys are very important in developing socialization in children. Later on, this socialization leads to recognition of principles of roles of the sexes which the children will have to specialize to later life.

Toys are also significant for helping parents realize the fields their children are interested in. For instance, if a baby like building things more than anything else, a parent is able to tell that his/her baby is interested in architecture.  Another child who likes cars, building and repairing cars and all sorts of machines gives a clue to the parents that the baby is interesting in engineering.
