IT Network Monitoring
Basically, network monitoring is the term used to describe the utilization of a system which continuously monitors a given computer network so as to identify the slow or even failing components and sends an alert to the network administrator in the vent that an outage occurs. The monitoring system sends the alert either through email or any other forms of alarms. In other words, it is simply the subset of the various functions involved within network management. Unlike the intrusion detection system which monitors the external threats to the network, the system is involved in checking the system for the brought about by overloading, malfunctioning servers or network connections. For instance, in order to establish the web-server status, the installed monitoring system is expected to send an HTTP request periodically to fetch a page. In the case of the email servers, test messages a probably sent via SMTP whereby the retrieval is done through POP3 or IMAP.
