WEEK 2 Disc 2: Reliability and Validity of Assessment Instruments

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapter 2 by Drasgow et al. (2010) in the Handbook of Workplace Assessment text and the webpage on Reliability and ValidityLinks to an external site. by Trochim (n.d.). You may wish to review Chapter 15 by Paese (2010) in the Handbook of Workplace Assessment which was required reading in Week 1.

Two key criteria for determining the quality of assessment instruments are measures of reliability and validity. In an initial post of at least 350 words and citing at least two scholarly sources,

• Define reliability and validity.
• Describe the significance of reliability and validity as they apply to assessment instruments.
• Discuss the significance of reliability and validity in contributing to organizational credibility when using assessments for succession planning.
  • What advice concerning the reliability and validity of assessment instruments would you give to a practitioner considering the use of assessment for succession planning?
