WEEK 2 ASSIGNMENT: Skills Matter
Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read Chapter 5 in Jacobs and Crockett (2021).
This week, you will assess your own leadership skills as they relate to your ability to lead and influence an effective organizational culture.

- The first skill is Adaptability. Leaders should embrace change. An adaptable leader can increase productivity.
- The second skill is Workplace Agility. Leaders should learn from their experiences and apply what they have learned in the future.
- The third skill is Critical Thinking. Leaders need to consider all the facts, opinions, and ideas to make logical decisions.
- The fourth skill is Emotional Intelligence. Leaders should manage their own emotions, and have strong social skills, empathy, motivation, self-awareness, and a willingness to adjust their behavior.
- The fifth skill is Cultural Intelligence. Cultural intelligence extends beyond an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Leaders should respect and work with a diverse workforce and community.
- The sixth skill is Customer Focus. Leaders who are focused on their internal and external customers actively solicit feedback from them and use it to improve their products and processes.
- The seventh skill is Entrepreneurial Mindset. Leaders must recognize new opportunities and act on them. They should learn and move forward from setbacks and succeed in a variety of environments.
- The eighth skill is Design Thinking. Leaders must have a vision for their organization and be able to work within the organization to achieve their desired outcome. Design thinking requires the ability to think.
- The ninth skill is Ownership. While leaders need to hold others accountable, they also must assume responsibility for their own actions.
- The tenth skill is Communication. While leaders need to provide feedback, they also need to be willing to receive feedback.
- The eleventh skill is Collaboration. Collaboration extends beyond the internal organization. Leaders who collaborate well do so with individuals, groups, and teams both within the organization and outside it.
- The twelfth skill is Technological Savviness. Leaders should be familiar with the technological advancements that could be used in their organization.
In a paper of at least 1,000 words (exclusive of title, abstract and reference pages) and citing at least two scholarly sources,
- Assess your leadership skills based on the 12 core competencies listed in Chapter 5 of Jacobs and Crockett (2021).
- Explain current trends that impact the skills you will need as a leader in the future, such as adoption of new technology, outsourcing, workforce reduction, rightsizing, expansion to global markets, and others.
- Develop a plan to make improvements in your skills and competencies to better lead and influence an organizational culture.
- Suggest training and resources you could use to develop your skills.

- Must include a separate title page with the following in title case:
- Title of the paper in bold font
- Space should appear between the title and the rest of the information on the title page.
- Student’s name
- Name of institution (The University of Arizona Global Campus)
- Course name and number
- Instructor’s name
- Due date
- Title of the paper in bold font
- Must utilize academic voice.

- Your introduction paragraph needs to end with a clear thesis statement that indicates the purpose of your paper.
