Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read Chapters 1, 2, and 3 in Understanding the Psychology of Diversity (Blaine & Brenchley, 2021). Watch the videos We All Have Implicit Biases. Explore the Project Implicit website and take at least two of the implicit bias assessments offered online. Then, in your paper, explore the meanings of these assessments and the stereotypes associated with the focus of each assessment. Section 1 of the assignment may be written in first person because you are asked for your personal findings and your personal perceptions. Section 2 must be written in academic voice, without using personal pronouns.
In a paper of at least 1,250 words (exclusive of title, abstract, and reference pages) and citing at least two scholarly resources in addition to required readings, complete the following sections:
Section 1
- Identify the assessments you completed.
- Describe what each assessment measures and your own results from them.
- Explain what the results of the assessments tell you about your personal stereotypes and biases.
- Discuss whether the findings surprised you and how the assessment findings helped raise your consciousness about potential bias.
- Hypothesize about the potential effect each implicit bias you evaluated might have if it were held by someone in the workplace.
Section 2
- Discuss the social categorizations and stereotypes associated with each assessment you completed.
- Delineate the groups of people affected by the potential implicit bias associated with each assessment.
- Analyze how these implicit biases may discriminate against these people.
- Explain how diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives can help overcome potential sources of implicit bias within organizations.
- Provide an example of a DEI initiative that could help address one of the implicit biases associated with an assessment you took.
