WEEK 2 DISCUSSION 1: Application of Ethical Decision-Making

Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum, read Chapter 3: Philosophical Ethics and Business in your textbook (Hartman et al., 2021). In addition, you may wish to review Why Do U.S. Public Companies Continue to Join the UN Global Compact: Ethics or Economics? (Barrese et al., 2020).

In an initial post of at least 350 words and citing at least two scholarly, peer-reviewed resources, review and consider the section “Ethical Principles and the United Nations Global Compact” in Chapter 3 of Hartman et al. (2021). Imagine that your organization or another organization you have researched has called on you to develop a position for the organization on adopting these universal ethical norms for business operations:

• Identify the arguments you would raise for application of the U.N. Global Compact 10 Principles.
• Defend as good business practices the application of these principles.
• Conceptualize the opposition to adopting the principles you might expect from others in the organization. Do these arguments have legitimacy? Why or why not?
