Like these fields and many others, social work is a regulated profession. Licensure offers credibility, certifying that an individual has the knowledge and training to practice, and provides a wider range of opportunities, as many employers and settings require licensure.
Licensure requirements can vary from state to state. When pursuing a social work career, it is important to know the requirements where you live so that you are prepared. In this Discussion, you consider the value of licensure and research the social work licensure criteria for your state.
To prepare:
- Review the Learning Resources on social work licensure.
- Search on the two Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) webpages to find your state’s licensure requirements.
Post a response to the following:
- Describe the benefits of getting licensed as a professional social worker.
- Briefly summarize your state’s licensure requirements for social workers. In your summary, answer the following questions:
- Are social workers licensed in your state—if so, at what levels?
