Week 2: Discussion #2 – Culture

We are a global society! We are linked by our work, our education, and our friendships.

However, a global society needs to be aware of the multitude of cultures that we may not have had experiences with. Even within our U.S. borders, we have different cultures that interweave into our lives.  How do we navigate many different viewpoints, customs, and beliefs? It can be daunting!

In this discussion, please reflect in your work businesses and careers, then answer the following questions (Please write the questions and then respond to each):

1.       When have you experienced a different culture in the workplace?

2.       If you were in the military and deployed to a different country, what cultures did you come across?

3.       What did you do to understand the culture of your fellow workers?

4.       Also, what might you need to think about if you were leading a diverse work team?

5.       Do you think there may be cultures that might be high-context or low-context cultures that may create some challenges?

Your initial posting to the Discussion Forum is due by Thursday, midnight.  You are expected to provide substantive responses to 1 of your peers. Initial responses to this topic question should run no less 2-3 paragraphs and include insights and concepts from the week’s reading.
